Plant Sterols/Sterol Esters

FAQ

Are your plant sterols non-GMO?

Some of them are! We have both standard GMO and IP-certified non-GMO plant sterol products in our portfolio. Both products do not contain proteinaceous materials and are PCR-negative, which is indicative of the highly refined nature of the plant sterols

What raw materials do your plant sterols come from?

Our plant sterol and sterol ester products primarily come from vegetable oil sources (edible oilseeds). We source oilseed deodorizer distillate, a nutrient-rich co-product from the refining of vegetable oils like soybean, corn, canola, and other oilseeds. If you require a plant sterol produced from pine trees or tall oil pitch, we can also source those sterols as well.

Do your Plant Sterols contain allergens?

Although they produced from soybeans, our Plant Sterol products go through multiple distillation and crystallization steps to remove nearly all impurities. All of the allergen-causing proteinaceous materials are removed very early on in the oil refining process and do not end up in the finished sterol products.

Can you make custom sterol ester formulations?

Absolutely! We routinely manufacture sterol esters on a customized basis for our customers. We can customize products to have different sterol/stanol profiles or to have a specific melting point range for different food and nutritional products. We can work with short and long chain fatty acids, or from a specific source (e.g. soy, canola, sunflower, palm, coconut, etc.)

What package sizes do you routinely carry in stock?

Our plant sterol products are typically carried in 25 or 50kg fiber drums with food-grade poly liners or Type C 500kg FIBC Bulk Bags with top and bottom discharge spouts.

Our sterol ester products are typically carried in 25kg or 180kg epoxy phenolic FDA lined steel drums. We can also pack sterol esters in 900kg cardboard IBC bag-in-box containers with integral heating blankets for larger orders or to increase shipping container density.
